Nassington Nature

In Nassington we are blessed with a beautiful landscape of open spaces, fields, hedgerows, woods, rivers and streams. In fact, Nassington Parish has some of the best wildlife habitat in Northamptonshire.

What we have come to call ‘Nassington Nature’ is a group of people from Nassington and the surrounding area who regularly get together to celebrate, enhance and learn more about the nature that surrounds us in this beautiful part of the country. It is led by Charlotte Lemmon and Fran Hurst – nature lovers who live in Nassington and who have professional backgrounds in nature conservation and recovery work.

The group was born out of work carried out during the development of the Nassington Neighbourhood Plan in 2022, comprising a detailed environmental inventory of the parish and an assessment of its importance for wildlife.

Children from Nassington School helped to design the Nassington Nature logo – they entered a competition to draw a creature they had seen around here. The ladybird at the centre of the logo was the winning entry. The other colourful drawings the children produced are used to help promote Nassington Nature activities.

Nassington Nature organises nature walks and other events around the parish to help adults and children get closer to nature. They conduct regular bird and butterfly surveys to increase understanding of which areas are most important for wildlife. They also hold working parties to plant trees and hedges, dig ponds and improve community land – to directly support nature recovery in the parish.

Everyone is welcome to get involved. Do get in touch if you have ideas for future events, or would like to join our working parties. The more people involved, the more nature we can help.

Nassington Nature events are advertised on the Village Hall noticeboard, on the Nassington Village Community Facebook group and in the Village Newsletter.

If you’d like to join the mailing list, to make sure you hear about future activities,
please email Fran Hurst at: nature@nassington.org.uk
